Nine of the twelve early birds can be seen here whiling away their time at the infinity pool of the Madronas in Brgy. Bachawan, San Agustin, Romblon.

NCoV or no NCoV, it’s all systems go for the Medical Mission of Mercy coming from the United States to undertake surgical, dental and optometry operations at the Romblon District Hospital (RDH) in Romblon, Romblon on February 10–2020. They have purchased their plane tickets and their rooms in Dream Paradise in Romblon, Romblon are waiting for them. Twelve of them arrived in Bachawan today, February 8 (Saturday) via Caticlan and more are coming in the next two days.

Elle Madrona, who has direct contact with the MMOM medical contingent and closely coordinates with them, informed us that 25 MMOM medical missionaries changed their scheduled Cathay Pacific flights via Hong Kong just to proceed with the medical mission. Elle happens to be the sister of Cong. Eleandro Jesus Madrona and their family has been intimately involved with medical missions to our province for the past many years.

The determination of MMOM USA to proceed with their medical mission at the Romblon District Hospital in Romblon, Romblon is in sharp contrast with the decision of the Philippine Medical Association of Michigan to cancel (or postpone indefinitely) a similar medical mission that was arranged for the Romblon Provincial Hospital in Odiongan.

The latest update we got from Elle is that as of today, 12 MOMM USA medical missionaries have arrived in Bachawan via Caticlan (a barangay of Malay, Aklan which happens to have an airport that is primarily used as the gateway to Boracay). Others will be arriving tomorrow through the following routes: aboard a 2GO ship, via Caticlan again, and via Tablas airport in Tugdan. Then on Monday (February 10), 5 more medical missionaries will be arriving through Caticlan.

Elle Madrona is coordinating closely with MMOM USA and helps us keep tab of developments.

This will be the 4th time that a MMOM USA contingent will be undertaking a medical mission in our province. I am pressed for time so I can’t go after the crosschecking of all the little details. But I suppose there is a big likelihood that all previous 3 missions were conducted at the Romblon Provincial Hospital in Odiongan.

What is safer to presume is that this will be the first time a medical mission will be conducted at the Romblon District Hospital in Romblon, Romblon — at least after it was restored to Level 1 status (thus authorizing it to undertake medical operations). RDH achieved the Level 1 status on the seventh month of the Riano administration: a high-speed performance that stunned observers, both political friends and foes alike. Thus, in a way, this is a coming-out party for RDH so congratulations to everyone and mabuhay!

Once more, as basic information and handy reference, let us show below the kind of services MMOM USA is offering to our province and people.
